Please remember that pet licensing is important. In our area, it does fund the Marathon County Humane Society but more importantly by properly licensing your pet, you have another way of getting your dog or cat back if they would run away.
When I was talking with Heide Maxwell, Owner of Heide’s Pet Care, Heide said that it should be a no-brainer for pet owners to license their pets.
With the identification tags on their collars, someone who finds your lost furry friend can easily see your contact information. For those of you who have gone through the agony of a pet who ran away, you understand why licensing makes sense.
Pet Licensing Deadline in Wausau or Weston is March 31
For those of you who live in Wausau or Weston, the annual licensing deadline is March 31 (Easter this year). As you can see by the information copied below from the Petdata.com website, you can license them after this date but the fees will go up substantially:
|License Fees through March 31st|
|License Fees after March 31st|
|Unaltered Pet + Late Fee||
|Altered Pet + Late Fee||
The cost for licensing unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for licensing spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.
Licensing Online via Petdata.com
You will need this information no matter which way you choose to license your pet but if you decide to try the online option, you need to have your information input electronically. For me, I scanned in the receipts from my vet, Rockwood Pet Hospital for both neutering and the latest rabies shot. If you are licensing in person or by mail, you need copies of receipts or documentation from your vet to authenticate the information.
The fee for licensing online is $1.95 and you also have the option to donate to the Humane Society. Multiple pets can be licensed in one transaction.
If you purchase a pet in the middle of a licensing period, you are still expected to license that pet.
